On June 28, 1919—93 years ago today—the Texas Legislature voted to ratify the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing women the right to vote. Texas was the ninth state in the U.S. and the first in the south to vote to ratify the amendment, which was finally ratified on August 17, 1920 with a vote of the Tennessee Legislature. On August 26, 1920, the amendment officially went into effect with the certification of Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby.

In 1981, a bomb exploded at the Tehran headquarters of Iran's ruling Islamic Republic Party, killing 74 people, including Iran's chief judge, Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti.

The American bald eagle was removed from the endangered species list.
