Security officials at the former Howard Johnson Hotel on E. Central Texas Expressway in Killeen called 911 just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

They reported finding an ice chest filled with various chemicals in the back of the hotel, near a residential neighborhood.

Firefighters, paramedics and a Hazmat team responded.

According to Sgt. Eric Bradley with the Killeen Police Department, the ice chest was filled with precursor materials to make the drug methamphetamine.

A Hazmat crew was called in because the chemicals are considered very unstable and volatile.

Killeen Police are still investigating why the ice chest and chemicals were at the hotel.
