Cameron Park Zoo’s new elephant, Tanya, is now on exhibit. Tanya, who is a 28-year-old female African elephant, arrived from the Abilene zoo in late October. She and Tembo are now on exhibit together.

Cameron Park Zoo, in conjunction with the Elephant Species Survival Program (SSP), sent one of the zoo’s African elephants, Zoe, to the Kansas City zoo. The Kansas City zoo has the largest herd of African elephants within the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Zoe is on breeding loan to the Kansas City Zoo through the SSP program. The SSP sent Abilene Zoo’s elephant, Tanya, to Cameron Park Zoo to be a companion for Tembo.

The staff at Cameron Park Zoo invites everyone to come see Tanya and Tembo. Zoo hours are Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Zoo is open daily, but will be closed Christmas Day and New Years Day.
