Belton, Texas – The College of Visual and Performing Arts Wind Ensemble at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will present a Spring Tour Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 10, in the Walton Chapel on campus. The concert, under the direction of James Whitis, director of instrumental activities, is free and open to the public. Mr. Nils Landsberg, director of athletic bands, will join Mr. Whitis to conduct the concert as well.

The music performed at this concert will be diverse. The music selected for the spring tour can be performed as part of a church service and as a concert for public school students. Several of the selections (Alleluia! Laudamus Te, Salvation is Created, God of Our Fathers, Slavonic Folk Suite) are used by public schools for their UIL competitions and fit well into a church service. Others are lighter in nature such as a Dixieland arrangement of Just A Closer Walk With Thee and Greek Folk Song Suite.

Senior flute performance major Melissa Colquitt will be featured on Meditation from Thais. The concert will close with In the Center Ring. This piece is a snapshot of a circus performance, from the madcap antics of the jugglers and clowns to the elegance of the high-wire and trapeze performers. This wild musical romp is a technical challenge, but is great fun to play.

The wind ensemble will leave for their spring tour on Thursday, March 13. They will perform for area high schools in central and north Texas. Their tour will conclude with participation in the morning services at First Baptist Belton.
