(KILLEEN, TEXAS): The City of Killeen will honor Tommie Harris for his endeavors associated with the city’s Family Recreation Center by proclaiming Tommie Harris Day and hosting several other events to promote the Tommie Harris Foundation. In addition, the city will be officially opening the Family Recreation Center and Senior Center at Lions Club Park.
Friday, May 9 will be proclaimed as Tommie Harris Day. The day will feature a fundraising dinner to support the Tommie Harris Foundation. The dinner will be held at the Shilo Inn and Restaurant. The event will feature Mr. Harris signing autographs, taking photographs with those in attendance and silent auction. The keynote speaker for the event will be Sara White, the widow of deceased NFL Hall of Famer Reggie White.
Saturday, May 10 will start with the unveiling of the Tommie Harris Billboard which will be located on Central Texas Expressway on the city’s eastern boundary. The billboard will feature Mr. Harris and will announce the Tommie Harris Fitness Center at Lions Club Park. The billboard unveiling will take place at 9:00 a.m. at the billboard location.
Following the billboard unveiling, Tommie Harris will participate in the official ribbon cutting of the Tommie Harris Fitness Center located at the Family Recreation Center at Lions Club Park. The ribbon cutting will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Family Recreation Center. The ribbon cutting will be followed by Mr. Harris conducting a youth football camp in conjunction with coaches from Ellison High School and Killeen High School. The camp will feature youth from both schools in addition to youth from the Boys and Girls Club of Killeen.
The events are being held in conjunction with the Grand Opening Activities for the Family Recreation Center and Senior Center at Lions Club Park. The grand opening activities will commence on Thursday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. with the official ribbon cutting for the Family Recreation Center and Senior Center at Lions Club Park. The ribbon cutting will be followed by an open house of both facilities until 8:00 p.m. Open house visitors will be able to utilize the work out equipment as part of the open house.
Saturday, May 10 will feature a public open house at the Family Recreation Center and Senior Center from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The open house will allow patrons to utilize the fitness center, aerobics room, gymnasium and game room.
