(Press Release)
The Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Medical Center will co-sponsor the KIDFISH Classic state fishing tournament Saturday, June 28, from 7 a.m. to 12 noon at Tarrant Lake. Over 200 children ranging from ages 2 to 16 will compete in the fishing tournament.
These young fishing enthusiasts, who participated in local tournaments to qualify for Saturday’s state tournament, will be competing for prizes and the chance to become the 2008 KIDFISH Tournament Champion. Prizes include savings bonds, scholarships, and school donations for outdoor activities.
The by-invitation-only tournament is sponsored by KIDFISH Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization created as a youth outreach program to provide fishing opportunities and educational experiences for children and families across Texas and beyond.
Tarrant Lake, routinely used by VA patients, was recently stocked with more than 1,000 pounds of catfish courtesy of KIDFISH. As a community partner, the Teague Center provides a place for kids to enjoy a day of competitive fishing and in return KIDFISH helps stock the lake to promote their objective of providing fishing opportunities for children and families.
