(Press release)
Waco Habitat for Humanity will kick off its ninth annual Raise the Roof project on Monday, October 13, at 718 Frost Avenue.
Through this annual event, City of Waco employees and elected officials join with Habitat homeowners and other volunteers to build Habitat homes.
Habitat partner Patsy Joiner will work with volunteers to raise the walls of her new home.
At 10:00 a.m., construction will pause for a brief kick-off ceremony which will include words from City representatives.
The Raise the Roof project began in 1999 as a part of a nationwide effort for municipalities to work to improve housing in their communities.
The Waco Habitat for Humanity Raise the Roof project has continued each year, resulting in the construction of eleven new Habitat homes built with the help of City of Waco employees and elected officials.
This year’s Raise the Roof house is funded by the W. Lacy Clifton Fund at the Waco Foundation. It is the fourth house funded by a gift from the W. Lacy Clifton Fund since 2004.
Waco Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that builds houses in partnership with low-income families who then purchase the houses at cost and with no interest added to the loan. Mortgage payments help to fund additional Habitat homes.
Habitat for Humanity builds homes primarily through volunteer labor, including that of the future homeowners.
