Belton, Texas – The Bell County Symphonic Band will present their inaugural concert on Tuesday, October 28, at Hughes Recital Auditorium in Presser Hall on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor campus. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will last one hour with no intermission.
The theme for the concert is “A Bell County Portrait” and features music that portrays the many facets and events here in Bell County. Our military, lakes and rivers, our Czech influence, and of course the cowboys are featured through songs such as “Peacemaker March,” “Deep River,” “Purple Heart,” “American Riversongs,” “Trisch Trasch Polka,” “A Cowboy Symphony,” and “The Spirit of Texas.” The concert is free and open to the public.
The Bell County Symphonic Band is comprised of community members from throughout Bell County and the surrounding area and is organized and directed by James Whitis, director of Instrumental Activities at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The ensemble is one of many that are run through the Conservatory of Music at UMHB.
The mission of the group was to provide a performance ensemble for those instrumentalists that have a lifelong love of making music, in particular band music, and wanted to actively be involved in the process. Our members come from all walks of life. We have university professors and staff, public school teachers, university students, high school students, doctors, retirees and other community members. Interested parties that want to join the BCSB should contact the Conservatory of Music at UMHB. Membership registration is $50 per semester.
Please join us for an evening of music celebrating Bell County!
