In an attempt to match or exceed the $25,000 raised last year, Omega Kids once again brings a top-notch band to perform at Baylor University.

Dr. Dog, a Beatles-style rock band from Philadelphia, will perform Wednesday, April 22 at Fountain Mall on the Baylor Campus. The doors will open at 6 pm and the event will begin at 7:30 pm. Admission is $10 and 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward providing for poverty-stricken Kenyan children.

The money will be given to Pastor Boniface, from Nairobi, Kenya, who came to Baylor in January to speak in chapel.

Omega Kids is a non-profit organization started by Baylor students after they visited Nairobi and felt compelled to do something about the dire situation many of the children there face. The name Omega Kids essentially means “last kids” – from the last kids who would be suffering to the last kids who would receive help, etc.

Over Christmas break, senior Jenne Blackburn, one of the founders of Omega Kids, went to Kenya with a team for the first time to see Liberty House – a house that Omega Kids has built to house and help orphans and homeless children who have an addiction to glue. The kids go to school, get job-training and work on a farm.

Omega Kids has even expanded beyond the Baylor bubble to reach other areas of the country. Blackburn just returned from Massachusetts where an entire school dedicated a month of offerings and art projects to Omega Kids.

Blackburn encourages people to get involved in Omega Kids because “it is really grass roots- so whoever latches on to the story can be a part.”
