Senior Brittnee Rice finished her career as one of the most devastating power hitters in the history of Tarleton softball. Rice finished the 2009 season with 16 home runs, breaking the previous mark of 14 set by former All-American Monica Garza during the 2003 season. Rice also increased her two-year total to 27, breaking Garza’s record of 23 set during the 2002-03 seasons. Perhaps the best game of Rice’s career came March 21, 2009 against Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M. Rice was three-for five from the plate with six runs batted in and three home runs in the contest. Her three home runs tied the Lone Star Conference record for home runs in a game, and her twelve bases taken during the game gave her the Tarleton record. Rice finishes her career ranked as follows: first all-time in single-season home runs (16), first all-time in home runs during a two year career (27), first all-time in single-game home runs (3, also a conference record), first all-time in bases taken during a single contest (12), sixth all-time in single-season runs batted in (39), tied for eighth all-time in single-season base on balls (20)." She is in fact tied for third all time in single season runs batted in with (46) 2008. And she also had the fourth highest all time in a single season slugging percentage (.714) in 2009. on April 14,2009 Rice was able to get the TexAnns on the board when she hit a towering homerun to left-center in the bottom of the sixth. The run will challenge the legendary Monica Garza homerun as one of the all-time long balls in the history of Tarleton Softball.
She is a vivacious young lady, who I believe will go on to succeed in her career endeavors because of her values and commitment to persevere. Coach Mata, the Tarleton Coach had as many good things to say about her as a person, as she did about her above statistics
