On Sunday, May 24, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. (weather permitting) Catherine Mason, General Manager for KPLE-TV, Killeen, is taking a ‘flying Leap of Faith’ to Tandem Skydive at Skydive Temple, Salado Airport in Salado, Texas.
Desperate people do desperate things.
It is about having enough ‘faith to finish,’ This 81 year old believer is putting her life on the line to take a stand for Christian values. KPLE-TV needs to ‘finish the digital transition’ required by the FCC. In 8 months, viewers have given $148,000.
Another $50,000 is needed to purchase additional equipment that must be put in place by the June deadline.
This ‘Flying Leap of Faith’ is to focus attention to keeping Christian television alive and well in Central Texas. Mason said ‘I did not hear God say to jump from a plane 3000 feet in the air.
I have never really thought of such a thing. My reason initially was that the Station must meet the FCC requirements by June. KPLE-TV is now transmitting three separate digital channels, however, it is not finished.
Other equipment is needed for the station to function properly, the most pressing being an automation system. If 50 people will give $1,000 the finish line will be crossed.
There is much more at stake for the Station than just raising money or staying on the airwaves.
KPLE-TV is the only 24/7 Christian TV station between Waco and Austin covering the heart of Central Texas including all of the largest military installation in the free world. It has proven itself to be a viable vehicle in the pro-life movement by producing five seasons of “Faces of
Abortion” carried on several networks and the web, and translated into Russian. It provides free airtime for over 45 non-profit agencies including Hope Pregnancy, National Day of Prayer, the Jesus Video, Project Angel Tree, and Just Give Me Jesus upcoming at Baylor University.
