(Temple) – Temple Parks & Leisure Services invite the public to enjoy a night of vittles and fun at the Hee Haw Hayride musical comedy. The play is part of a new amateur youth theatre program offered by the Parks and Leisure Services Department. The stars of Hee Haw Hayride will be area middle and high school students. It will be held at the Cultural Activities Center, Tuesday, June 9. Tickets are on sale now.
While Hee Haw Hayride is the first youth stage show to be produced by Temple Parks & Leisure Services, organizers say it will not be the last.
“We have had a lot of fun putting this show together,” Debbie Bergert, the show’s director, said. “We are already planning a similar production in the fall for elementary students.”
The all teen cast has been having a great time preparing for the show.
“Not only have the kids, but also their parents, have been working really hard,” Bergert said. “Back in April we started rehearsing just once a week. Now we are meeting at least three times a week to make sure we’re ready.”
The show, Hee Haw Hayride, centers around the story of star-crossed lovers from two feuding southern families. It’s full of laughs and great music. Performers hail from schools all around Central Texas. They include: Brent Reynolds, Clint Clark, Jeremiah Bergert, Hannah Shine, Lexy Gonzalez, Leanne Milne (all of Central Texas Christian School), Christine Smith (Troy), and Jordan Bergert, Bethany Prater and Matthew McKinnon (Lake Belton Middle School).
A dinner, served by the cast, will precede the show at 5:45 p.m. in Wendland Hall of the Cultural Activities Center. The musical itself will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets for dinner and the show are just $15 and must be purchased by June 5. Tickets for the show only cost $6 in advance or $8 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in person at either at the Wilson Park Recreation Center or the Cultural Activities Center.
To purchase tickets over the phone, call the Wilson Park Recreation Center at (254) 298-5740. To arrange an interview, please contact Parks & Leisure Services Marketing Coordinator James Stafford at (254) 298-5414.
