(WACO) — The Heart of Texas Workforce Development Board has approved funding for a Youth Summer Employment and Development Program at Texas State Technical College.

The 11-week program is set to run June 8 through Aug. 20. Participating students will receive introductory training in the technology, college credit, workplace skills training and even get to shadow a job site on campus.

Qualifying students will receive an $800 stipend and get all tuition, books and fees paid for as participants in the program.

The program is designed for out-of-work, out-of-school, economically underprivileged youth ages 18 through 24 who are interested in developing workplace readiness skills and want to take an introductory training program in one of three areas — automotive servicing (10 slots available), auto collision repair (15 slots available) or energy-efficient building construction (15 slots available).

These students may also have an opportunity to continue in the fall as traditional, students in these or any other TSTC programs, and there may be additional work study opportunities this fall for students who continue.
