AUSTIN, TX June 28, 2009 . This July 3rd, Bikes for Goodness Sake (BFGS) is teaming up with the Patriot Kids Ministries and Fort Hood to give over 60 bikes and helmets to the children of deployed or deploying soldiers from Fort Hood. Recipient children were selected based on need .

Unit Commander of Camp Mabry, LTC Dietz, whose Unit were the recipients of 52 at BFGS's July 4th 2008 Event, said of the program, "I can walk down the street and by virtue of my uniform I am acknowledged for my sacrifice to this great Country. However, our soldiers' children go unrecognized and sacrifice in silence. It is rare, and indeed, humbling when someone honors the sacrifice of our families. And for that I am grateful to Bikes for Goodness Sake."

Each child, whose ages range between 3 and 12, receives a brand new bike-shop-quality bike, a custom-fitted helmet by a bike shop pro, and a bike safety lesson.

Mark Smith, Executive Director of the Foundation said, "We believe that a bike is a small but powerful tangible metaphor for freedom. A bike gives the opportunity for a child to experience the freedom that their parents' are fighting for. We aim to honor and bring awareness of the sacrifice that these children make in support of their loved ones serving our Country."

Bikes For Goodness Sake's (BFGS) mission is to provide Bicycle Shop quality bikes to children in need for the purpose of promoting health and joy for all children in the way only a bicycle can. Bikes for Goodness Sake's focus presently is donating bikes to children of deploying soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Donations can be made at www.BikesFGS.org or they can be mailed to Bikes for Goodness Sake, PO Box 201504, Austin, TX 78720. Or call 512-468-1953 for questions.
