Piranha Viewed In Central Texas College Pond
Killeen, Tx
My children and I were feeding the coy and turtle at the pond and we each seperately viewed the fish and each affirmed that it was, in fact, a red-bellied piranha.

My children, a guest, and I were at the Central Texas College campus in Killeen and brought several loaves of bread to feed the ducks and the coy fish that we have seen previously.

While the children were elsewhere feeding the turtles, I was tossing a quite large amount of bread and watching the coy and the small catfish fight over the bread and I kept seeing a quite obvious fish zip up to the surface to snatch some of the bread and retreat back beneath the surface.

When I saw it the first time, I knew what it was, but I continued to throw bread in attempts to see it and I watched it come to snatch bits and duck back down and I did see the mouth area which told me that it was, in fact, a piranha. My son came over and I told him what I had seen and he watched for a bit.. and when it came to the surface again.. he was excited, of course and without me telling him, he blurted it out, especially since he is into science and he also had seen it.

Shortly thereafter, my 14 year old daughter and her 15 year old friend came around to my side and we said what we had seen and she didnt believe that it would be in there. I gave her the last portion of the bread and I headed over to the car to get another loaf of bread to show her.. and when I got back.. she said blurted out that she had seen it and described it to me exactly. At that point.. she got very protective and was scared for anyone to be near the edge. We quickly tore up another loaf of bread and threw it into the water where we viewed it zip up to the surface a few more times.

The area that we viewed it was the area right in front of the parking area and we were throwing large amounts of bread into the water to where the coy werent afraid to come to the surface. Someone really needs to check out the water there. I know that both occassions we have been there, there has been children besides my own at that pond.

The fish was a silver gray with the red belly and it was obvious that it was not a coy or catfish and from the makeup of the jaw and that fact that i've seen enough animal planet shows and saw them at various zoos, it was piranha. I am not sure if it was just one, but there was at LEAST one. Please.. have someone check it out. I am sending you a link of the type of fish.. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/data/19280piranha.jpg&imgrefurl=http://forums.aquariumhobbyist.com/forum.php%3Fcatid%3D33&h=416&w=638&sz=29&tbnid=YRVFmKquhvIJ0M:&tbnh=89&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpiranha&usg=__qYXoBWybVOI_vqkHHeUZaA43upc=&ei=lHN6StKqCdGLtgfDwc3zAQ&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=5&ct=image
