Belton, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will celebrate Homecoming on Friday and Saturday, October 23-24. The theme for Homecoming this year is “Up with the Purple” which is fitting, since this is the title of the traditional senior and alumni song. Homecoming events will allow former students and alumni to enjoy reunions with former classmates and participate in campus life today.

The events begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with Homecoming Chapel. Chapel this year will highlight alumni musicians to include: Matt Crosby, Robert Mattson, Sandra Mattson, Daena Yerkes, Rob Dubois, and Randy Carder. As emcee for this event, Mr. Carder will also speak to the students and alumni which will provide a great start to Homecoming festivities. Immediately following chapel, the Alumni Association will host a luncheon honoring the Class of 1959 as they celebrate their 50th reunion. University President Dr. Randy O’Rear will present golden diplomas to each graduate to commemorate their 50th anniversary.

The events for Friday evening will begin with an alumni dinner, during which One Voice will present a concert, and Dr. O’Rear will speak about his vision for the university. Later in the evening, the alumni and students will gather for a pep rally, burning of the letters and fireworks. Following the fireworks, an old tradition will remain with a new twist. The traditional dessert party will be held in the Millennium Oaks Park with live music performed by Jared Johnson and an outdoor movie presentation at 10:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the first event will be the alumni and friends 5K Fun Run. The 5K is open to the public and will start at 8:00 a.m. at the Mayborn Campus Center. The Alumni Association will host a tailgate party at 11:00 a.m. at Tiger Field which will include sandwiches provided by Schlotzky’s Deli. Reservations for all events must be made through the Alumni Office.

The Homecoming football game will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Tiger Field in Belton. The Crusaders will take on Southern Oregon University.

Registration will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the alumni tent at the Musick Alumni Center and Museum on King Street on campus. For more information, contact the Alumni Office at (254) 295-4599 or visit the alumni web site at http://alumni.umhb.edu.
