For 24 straight hours beginning at noon on Thursday 11/12, Baylor Cycling members will be riding their bikes on trainers and working with Bicycles Outback to provide minor bike repairs, tires, tubes, etc. to passersby at a small fee. All proceeds will go to benefit the Jon Pursley Victim Fund and Baylor Cycling.
In June of this year, Jon Pursley was stabbed repeatedly in a random attack at the Skinny’s convenience store at the intersection of New Road and Valley Mills Drive. He said his wide-eyed attacker told him, “I am going to kill you.” Jon is a loved and important member of the Waco cycling community, and did not have health insurance to pay for his resulting surgeries and treatment. Donations to his victim fund can be made at the event, or by contacting Ian Moore at Bicycles Outback.
Baylor Cycling is a club sport at Baylor and relies on donations and fundraisers to help with the cost of participating in cycling events competing against other area schools such as Texas A&M, University of Texas, Texas State, TTU, SFA, UH, MSU, and many others. Baylor Cycling is active in the Waco cycling community by providing many volunteers at local events and assisting in trail work and maintenance. The club also promotes cycling to Baylor students as a healthy and safe exercise and lifestyle.
