KILLEEN (November 3, 2009)—A two-vehicle accident Tuesday evening that may have been caused by a deer on the road closed down a stretch of westbound U.S. Highway 190 between Harker Heights and Killeen and sent to people to area hospitals.

According to Harker Heights firefighters, an eastbound vehicle veered across the highway into oncoming traffic and an oncoming car.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver was trying to avoid the deer or whether the vehicle struck the deer, whose body was on the roadside.

One person with serious injuries was flown to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

The other person was taken to Scott & White by ambulance.

Police were diverting westbound traffic onto the frontage road at the Nolanville exit.

Westbound traffic was backed up for more than a mile and eastbound traffic was moving slowly.

Its sad that you all are more worried about the deer if it was dead or alive before the crash! You all should be more worried about the PEOPLE who were injured in the crash! Also you dont have to drive like a nascar driver to get into an accident so dont judge. You all are sickning! Its sad how people have no morals, respect and flat out DONT CARE ABOUT ANYONE NOW ADAYS!

There were two deer. I saw the deer in the middle of the road and I saw the man who drug it to the side of the road. There was another deer on the same side of the road about half a mile east. I'm pretty certain the man hit the deer killing the deer and sending him to the oncoming traffic.

I was heading towards Killeen on 190 shortly after the accident happened. I wonder, was it really neccesary to close westbound 190 all the way from the Nolanville exit to Knights way? That was ridiculous! I saw two fende r benders and an overheated car from the enormous diversion that was created. I understand trying to keep the crash area safe and traffic moving but the traffic snarl that ensued from the highway being blocked was just not called for.
