WACO (May 4, 2009)--The seizure of 78 dogs from a rural McLennan County property is straining the resources of the Waco Humane Society, which is caring for the animals until a court hearing Friday that will determine the dogs’ fate.
The Great Pyrenees, Rat Terriers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels were seized Friday from a residence at 1209 Oak Knoll in Elm Mott where deputies served a warrant that authorized the seizure of as many as 150 dogs.
McLennan County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Randy Plemmons said it was “one of the worst cases of animal cruelty we’ve seen in this county in a long time.”
On Friday, deputies found some dogs in cages normally used to hold rabbits, Plemmons said.
They also found a 55-gallon drum that contained the remains of dead dogs and another barrel that contained the remains of dead goats, Plemmons said.
The bellies of some of the dogs that were seized were yellow because the animals had been lying in their own feces, Plemmons said.
Documents show that some of the dogs had badly matted hair and tumors.
The dogs had not been bathed and evidently have not been vaccinated, documents show.
The Humane Society is seeking donations of cash, food for small-breed dogs and is looking for volunteers to walk and help care for the seized animals.
Anyone interested in helping may call the shelter at (254) 754-1454.

Every time there is a seizure anywhere, it’s always “the worst” or “one of the worst”—sensationalism at its finest! Is it a coincidence that it’s right before the THLN/H$U$-backed anti-breeding bill is up for a vote? I don’t think so. THLN/H$U$ wants to STOP breeding, period, and they even oppose a bill that would bring back *due process* for animal owners who are caught in their crosshairs (and who just might be innocent). Also, seizing (STEALING under color of law) *small breeds* can be lucrative, as they *SELL* well. It’s okay if they SELL them, but not if someone is in the BUSINESS of raising and selling animals (pets now, livestock later!). Check out http://ar-hr.com and other links at that site for the TRUTH about H$U$ and the people who become their “zombies”.

I'd like to know why no one has shown the raw video footage or still photos of this so the public will know exactly what kind of conditions these animals were living in. As an animal lover, I feel very stongly about things like this. How would these ppl feel if they were locked in a room too small to stand up in or turn in and then have to live in their own excrement for days, weeks or months on end?? I have to agree with Shelly. The medical conditions of these ppl didn't happen overnight, so why didn't they request some kind of help?? This situation CANNOT be blamed on caretakers which were hired. I mean, would you pay someone to fix your car or cut your grass or clean your house without checking out the job they did?? Doubtful. As a responsible animal owner or breeder, those animals are YOUR responsibility, not the ppl you hire. In my opinion, these ppl should not EVER be allowed to have ANY animals and I hope they're punished to the fullest extent of the law!!!
