ELM MOTT(May 12, 2009) - An Elm Mott man says his young family is terrified, after they woke up Tuesday morning to find a mummified, charred dog at the end of their driveway.
"I don't know if it's a message, I see it as a threat," the man said.
The man, who asked not be identified, said he was just trying to alert authorities about some wild dogs in his neighborhood when he called Police.
Then, two weeks ago, McLennan County Sheriff's Investigators raided a home down the street. Seventy-eight dogs were seized, and the dog's owner was arrested in connection with what authorities at the time called one of the worst cases of animal abuse/neglect in years.
"I don't know for sure if they two are connected, it just seems really coincidental," the man said.
The man says he has reported the incident to the sheriff's office. He adds he will soon build a 6-foot fence around his yard to prevent something like this from happening again.

My country raising also taught me that if your animlas damage neighbor's property you take responsibly for it, and when you make a mistake your do not hide behind "Christian beliefs", but instead you truly live by them and DO THE RIGHT THING. You do not make up excuses for your actiions, but apoligize and make things right with your neighbors. The fact that you stated that your dogs drag up dead animals, tells me that you let your dogs roam across others prorperty as well, so that tells me what kind of "country neighbor" you are. I am putting up a 6-foot fence not because I am a "scared rabbit", but because I want to make sure my family and my animals are safe from dogs that still run the neighborhood. A pack of dogs is dangerous, no matter if they are in the city or the country.

In response to Country Boy, I have never lived in the city, I was born and raised in the country were I was taught not only to respect your neighbor, but also your neighbors property. With animals comes responsiblity, you are responsible for your animals. That means you provide them with clean food, clean water, and clean shelter. I have raised everything from a skunk to a parrot and everything in between. My family has always had livestock, and with any type of livestock, you will occasionally have thme get out. This is the exception, NOT the rule. If you have a a recurring problem then you either spend the money and put up a fence, so that your animlas are not a nuisance, or you have a enough commen sense to find your animals a new home.

countryboy...why are you defending these criminals?? And by the way....WHY are your dogs running loose? If your dogs are dragging dead animal bones up into your yard, that tells me that they're somewhere they shouldn't be. (like in someone elses yard or pasture.) Maybe you should put up a fence and keep your animals in their own yard!! I have to agree with erin...this is exactly what started this entire mess. The only good thing that's come out of all of this is that those poor dogs will finally have a chance at a normal life.
