TEMPLE (May 19, 2009)—Ivan Hernandez, the manger for Temple Tejano star Little Joe Hernandez said Tuesday he thinks more than 60 checks were written using the Grammy Award winner’s identity.

Ivan Hernandez didn’t have an estimate of the total amount of money involved.

Little Joe Hernandez was arrested Thursday night, during a traffic stop outside of Milano after the Department of Public Safety says a records check turned up a fraud warrant out of Marshall, Okla.

Hernandez was taken to the Milam County Jail,.

He was freed on a $10,000 bond on Friday morning.

The Oklahoma prosecutor who signed the complaint, District Attorney Craig Ladd, said Tuesday that he was unaware the warrant was issued for the wrong man.

He said he would expect to hear from Little Joe's attorney before moving forward, but declined further comment because the case was open and ongoing.

A copy of the check at issue, obtained by News 10, is made out to Lewis Barthold Tire Sales of Madill, Okla.

The check, dated Oct. 13, 2007, is written for $1500.

The name and address on the top left is made out to a "Joe Hernandez Enterprises" with an address in Dallas.

The co-owner of Barthold Tire Sales told News 10 that the Hernandez who wrote the check is not the same man that was arrested.

"It's crazy. Well, they picked up the wrong man." Shirley Barthold said.

Hernandez's manager says Little Joe was performing hundreds of miles away in Pearland, the day the check was written and the day before.

Herandez's manager indicates that Hernandez has filed an ID theft report with the Temple Police Department.

A call to the phone associated with the Dallas address on the check was not returned.
