MEXIA (June 11, 2009)--An overnight fire continued to burn Thursday in spots at an oil recycling plant near Mexia.

A Mexia Fire Department spokesman told News 10 the fire was very large and caused significant damage to the Total Recycling plant.

The roof of the metal building is caved in because of the flames and some hot spots continued to burn Thursday afternoon.

One Mexia fire unit was still standing by after 1 p.m. Thursday to guard against flare-ups.

The business is on Belknap St., just outside the city limits.

Residents never were in danger and the incident did not require evacuations.

The fire was reported at about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Units from Mexia, Teague, Wortham And Groesbeck responded.

A state fire marshal who happened to be in Groesbeck working on another investigation was immediately dispatched to Mexia and was on the scene Thursday morning.

The Mexia Fire Department spokesman told News 10 he expected the fire marshal would be on the scene for several days.

The plant gathers used oil products and recycles them for further use in vehicles and industrial machines.
