BELTON (June 18, 2009)—The Bell County Grand Jury has indicted Jaquinn Keith Williams, 21, of Belton for attempted capital murder and possession of marijuana over four ounces and Samantha J. Paul, 22, of Temple for possession of marijuana over four ounces in connection with a drug raid in Temple in which they and a Temple police officer were wounded in an exchange of gunfire in April.

Temple Police Officer Marlin Reed was shot in the arm during what police described as a high-risk drug raid on April 3 in Building 1 of the Creekside Apartments at 3550 SW H.K. Dodgen Loop where the residents were believed to be in possession of marijuana.

A second round struck Reed in the torso, but he was spared serious injury by the protective gear he was wearing, police said.

Reed is a six-year veteran and has been a member of the Temple SWAT team for four years.

The shooting happened as Temple SWAT Team officers were executing the narcotics search warrant on an apartment

As the officers entered the apartment and announced that they were police, a man in the front room of the apartment opened fire with a small-caliber handgun.

Other officers returned fire, police said, and the gunman was struck in the chest and upper torso.

A woman in the apartment was also shot.

Williams and Paul were initially charged with possession of marijuana.

It was the first time a Temple officer was shot in the line of duty since the late 1980s, police said and the first time in the SWAT Team's 20-year history that there was a "police-action shooting during the execution of a search warrant," police said.

First and foremost regardless ofthe couples decisions , and drug possessions, they were known to be armed as The TPD stated themselves in thefew weeks that followed the incident. I do want to say as a resident at the apartment complex , and not but a wall divided away from this apt. that it took place at. I was awake when it all took place, they did not announce themselves til after shots had already startedto be fired. The soundof the swat team barging in ..yes" anybody that was familiarwith the activity thesetwo were conducting they knewwho was comin in! The only problem i really want to throw a fit about is..... SINCE THEY KNEW BEFORE HAND THIS WAS GOING TO BE A HIGH RISK DRUG SEARCH AND THE INDIVIDUALS WERE KNOWN TO BE ARMED ETC.. WHY COULDNT THEY OF HAD THE ADACITY TO WARN OR EVACUATE SOMEHOWIN SOME FORM OF MATTER WITHOUT TOOMUCH DESTRACTION OR ATTENTION DRAWN TO THEIR PRESENCE EXAMPLE:THE APT MANAGER HAS RECORDSOF TELEPHONE NUMBERS OF RESIDENTS.OTHER PPL LIVE HERE TOO AND KIDS!!

Hey Texan, the fact is that pot is illegal and they were selling it. IT WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED if this couple hadn't made the choices that they made.
