WASHINGTON (June 22, 2009)—Indicted Central Texas billionaire R. Allen Stanford was en route to Houston Monday to face charges that he ran a $7 billion swindle, a law enforcement official said.

U.S. Marshals are escorting Stanford back to the state from Virginia where he was arrested.

The indictment was returned in Houston.

The official says the trip will involve two separate flights and said Stanford will arrive in Houston sometime Tuesday morning.

The former Mexia and Waco resident was indicted last week on charges that his international banking empire was really just a massive Ponzi scheme.

He made an initial court appearance in Richmond, Va., and a further detention hearing is scheduled to take place in Houston.
