BELTON (June 25, 2009)—Milton Britt Crowe, 54, of Temple, who evidently had an attack of conscience and confessed in April that he killed his wife 15 years ago, has been indicted for murder.
Linda Crowe’s body was found on July 3, 1994 on Paddy Hamilton Road just east of Nolanville.
She had been shot once in the head.
Crowe reported her missing in the early morning hours of July 4, 1994 to Belton police.
The Crowes lived in Belton at the time.
In 1994 investigators believed Milton Crowe “had some involvement in the murder,” according to a statement released by the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, but Crowe left the state and the investigation stalled.
Crowe told investigators in April, however, “the matter was bothering him recently,” according to the Sheriff’s Office statement.
He told deputies he shot his wife, according to an arrest affidavit.
He surrendered to after speaking with local church counselors, one of whom accompanied him when he turned himself in to sheriff’s deputies.
Crowe remains in custody in lieu of bonds totaling $201,000.
