WACO (June 26, 2009)--One of three men charged in the shooting death of another man in Waco was in court Friday to plead guilty to a charge stemming from the killing.

54th District Court Judge Matt Johnson sentenced Larry Waits, 20, to 30 years in state prison after Waits pleaded guilty to robbery for his role in the 2008 shooting death of Robert Nevarez during an attempted robbery.

The McLennan County Grand Jury indicted Waits, along with Steve Kelly and Keith Wayne Caufield for capital murder and aggravated assault in December.

Nevarez's body was found early in the morning in the 2500 block of Cole Avenue with a single gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

Nevarez was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Caufield's case is pending.

Kelly, 19, pleaded guilty in April to a lesser charge of murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors agreed they would not prosecute Kelly on retaliation charges for threats made to several people who cooperated with police in the investigation into Nevarez's death.

How do you post a comment saying May God Bless and in the next breath wish for the devil to continue in their lives. I agree these individuals were shown great mercy, but that is what God is all about forgiveness, and mercy. Just as he shows it to me, he has shown it to you as well. I understand that you may be angry over what has transpired, but you are to pray for the souls that are lost. If someone has murdered someone else, they are a lost soul, and therefore, we should not judge, make excuses or wish them harm. Pray for them, as you have prayed for the Nevarez family as well. After all we are all children of God...Be Blessed

May God Bless and Keep the Nevarez Family and continue to comfort them. 30 and 40 years are not long enough. The Criminals got off easy. May God let them experience more justice then they can stand in prison and may the devil keep them in hell for the rest of eternity.
