BELL COUNTY (June 26, 2009)—Firefighters rescued a dog Friday from a burning home in rural Bell County.

The fire broke out at around 3 p.m. Friday in the utility room of the one-story home at 6271 Three Forks Road between Belton and Little River-Academy.

Firefighters from Little River-Academy responded and called for support from the Holland Volunteer Fire Department.

The couple who lived in the home escaped safely, but the family’s dog was trapped in a back room.

Firefighters were able to rescue the dog, which appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation.

The firefighters administered oxygen.

The fire damaged about 20 percent of the home, officials said, but the quick response of Little River-Academy volunteers kept the flames from spreading to the remainder of the residence.

No one was hurt.

The cause is under investigation.
