ROBERTSON COUNTY (July 8, 2009)--Lameika Whitfield, 26, of Cameron, who was seriously injured Tuesday in a head-on crash on Highway 6 in Robertson County, was in critical condition Wednesday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.
Whitfield was flown to the hospital by helicopter Tuesday with broken bones and internal injuries, Department of Public Safety Trooper Scott Swick said.
She was injured when her northbound car crossed the Highway 6 centerline at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday and slammed into a southbound truck driven by Joseph Wegwert, 25, of Bryan.
The collision ripped off the left front tire of Wegwert’s truck.
The tire struck a third vehicle, but neither of the two occupants was injured.
Wegwert was treated at Saint Joseph Hospital in Bryan and was later released.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
