IREDELL (August 26, 2009)-An unusual accident near Iredell Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of an 18-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Holly Lynn Travelstead, 18, of Hico, was pronounced dead at Hamilton General Hospital at 7:18 p.m.

Hamilton County Justice of the Peace James Lively ordered her body sent to Southwest Institute of Forensic Science, at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, for autopsy.

Travelstead also was five months pregnant and her unborn child did not survive.

Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Cory Ledbetter, of Meridian, reported at about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday Travelstead had been sitting on the roof of a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer pick up truck driven by Brittany Allen, 18, also of Hico, while the truck was parked at a low water crossing on Bosque County Road 4235.

The location is along the Bosque-Hamilton county line about 7 miles northwest of Iredell.

Ledbetter's report indicates that without warning the truck accelerated abruptly, causing Travelstead to fall from the roof and strike her head on the concrete crossing.

I talked to Holly the day before this tragic accident happened. She was very excited about being a mother but like all of us with our first child was scared to. What happened is sad and She will be missed greatly! This was an accident! Im 27 yr old mother and still from time to time dnt think twice about my acttions. But none knws what really happened on that day. So for that we can NOT judge. For those of you that did not know Holly she was a wonderful girl that was full of energy and happieness. So please dont bad mouth her. Some thing like this could happen to you at any point in time. What if the shoe was on the other foot how would you feel to read these horrible things about someone you loved and cared about or a baby that never got a chance to see the world.KARMA is a real thing and it wll come back to get you. So please keep your bad comments to your self. RIP Holly and Baby Kayleb you are gone but never will you be for gotten.

I am baby (Kayleb) daddy (Maddison) mother. I spoke with Holly on many occasions, she was always very happy/excited about having the baby. After seeing the nursery it was very evident she loved /looking forward to the birth of her new son. She would have never knowing have jepordized the welfare of Kayleb. You are all wrong in assuming that she would in any way have harmed her baby or herself for that matter. If you didn't know her I would ask that you honor her and her baby's memory think about how so many of us have suffered from loosing them and not write disparaging messages. It has been very hurtful and we all will always have the emptyness in our hearts. So, please do not add to it! As her Grandmother stated so clearly, Holly was a fun loving person with a great future planned. Sadly, she and Kayleb will not be here to live it. Please let them rest in peace!

When I 1st read some of your comments I was a little upset cuz we all did stupid things when we were kids even if we adults don't like to admit it. I want to say to her family I am truely sorry for your loss. I wish I would have been able to have met Holly. And to my lil bro, Maddison Please be strong and We love you! And to those of you who don't understand, neither do we, but try not to judge because someone was right in other comments by saying we will never really know the real events of that day. My prayers and thoughts for you all!
