LOMETA (September 17, 2009)—A Lometa ISD teacher has resigned days after the school district launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from a former student.

Lometa Superintendent David Rice says the teacher resigned Wednesday.

Rice said the district received a complaint last week from a former student, and launched an investigation last Friday.

Rice declined to discuss the nature of the complaint, but said only that the student who submitted the complaint graduated last year and is now in college.

Rice says the internal investigation was not completed when the teacher resigned.

He said the Texas Education Agency has been notified.

On Thursday, an investigator with the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office said a complaint was filed with the sheriff's office, but said an investigator has not been assigned to the case.

Friday, the sheriff’s office said an investigation was underway.

The Lometa ISD, which has about 320 students, is northwest of Lampasas.

I feel really bad for this little town and the families involved, I know the accused family and know they are good people. If in fact these accusations turn out to be truth I pray that everyone involved will have strength to get through this and move on as well as the little town. A lot of you are mad at those who speak badly about the accused, backing them because they are from good people, and everyone makes mistakes. Famous last words!!! We all know this because our jails and prisons are full of "GOOD" people who have made mistakes. And although everyone is sadened by this it is still a crime. Imagine for one minute if this accused was from a different town not known by anyone for several counties with no family close to speak of, how would you feel then? No we are not to sit in judgement of others, and I myself have made mistakes and would be devistated if they got out, but the reality is, this is a horribly crime with long term effects.
