WACO (September 21, 2009)—An investigation was underway Monday after Robert Gray, 23, of Axtell, who was arrested early Saturday and charged with possession of a controlled substance, fell ill while bonding out of the McLennan County Jail and later died.
Gray was arrested after a Texas State Technical College police officer pulled him over at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday for running a stop sign on the TSTC campus.
TSTC said Gray was not a student.
Three pills were recovered from Gray’s car, but authorities did not say what they were.
Gray was taken to the McLennan County Jail and was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
McLennan County Sheriff Larry Lynch said Monday Gray was in the process of bonding out when he got sick.
He was taken to a Waco hospital where he later died.
McLennan County Justice of the Peace Kristi DeCluitt pronounced Gray dead and ordered an autopsy.
Results were pending Monday.
Authorities declined further comment Monday pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Marcus, I guess when someone mentions the Constitution, you automatically ASSUME they are a drug dealer. How sad you are! Anonymous, you sure are full of ASSUPTIONS. A cocktail of pills huh. You have no idea what you are talking about, yet you think you have it all figured out. You all are full of assumptions. But, yet can't produce one single fact. You probably think polititians have our best interest at heart to. You couldn't see the truth if it slapped you in the face. That boy was in no way hurting you or your brother. You could have gone your whole life without even knowing he was there. But, yet somehow you feel threatened by him. That is awsome. He wasn't hurting anyone and wouldn't have hurt anyone. He was not that kind of person. That is a fact, not an assumption. You are a sad bunch of small mided, scared, confused and ignorant individuals that think you really know something about something you know absolutly nothing about.
