McLENNAN County (September 28, 2009)-Three Central Texas boaters suffered minor injuries Sunday evening as they were clipped by a rope spanning the Brazos River.

A dispatcher for the Hill County Sheriff's Office told News 10 the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. Sunday along the northern edge of McLennan County.

The three people were riding on a fan-boat along the Brazos river near Gholson when they encountered the rope.

It is unclear why the rope was stretched across the river.

All three refused medical treatment.

Gholson is about 16 miles north of Waco.

The Brazos River acts as a natural territorial boundary between Bosque and Hill Counties.

I hope that the boaters involved in this incident file charges on whoever did this. My guess is that the evil person who put the rope there doesn’t care if he hurts someone. How would he feel if the tables were turned and someone tried to hurt/kill him or someone in his family?

I think it’s a shame that someone would pull such a stunt. They obviously don’t THINK….don’t think about the fact that they could kill someone…even kill a child. Maybe they don’t care. Well they will care when they get criminal charges filed on them. Wonder what they’ll think about that?! I think attempted manslaughter charges would be appropriate since that’s exactly what they did. Maybe some prison time will make them appreciate living on the river! A little noise from an airboat won’t seem nearly so bad as listening to prison noise. They need to get a life!

I would like to thank all of the volunteer rescue units, and the law enforcement involved in the search and rescue. I was surprised to hear how many units immediately became involved on the news. It is comforting to know that we have so many dedicated individuals willing to risk their own safety for others, and for when idiots do something like this. Thank you to every one of you who left your family on a Sunday evening not knowing what to expect! Anyone reading this, help was from all over this area, not just one community. Anytime you hear of a volunteer fire department fish fry or other volunteer rescue fund raising event, for ANY community in the surrounding area, please consider grabbing some friends and contributing to the event. I know I will!
