MARLIN (October 20, 2009)—Falls County Deputy Sheriff Stephen Davis, who was named in an arrest warrant issued over an unpaid traffic fine, was fired Tuesday.

Falls County Sheriff Ben Kirk issued a brief statement late Tuesday afternoon about the termination of the deputy after News 10 asked him about the arrest warrant, which was issued on July 30.

Davis started working at the Falls County Sheriff’s Office on July 15.

The warrant stemmed from an unpaid ticket for driving 11 miles an hour over the posted limit that Davis received before he was hired in Falls County.

News 10 also learned that Davis, who made arrests and issued citations during his three months as a deputy, wasn’t a legally certified Texas peace officer until Sept. 14, according to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education records.

The statement that Kirk issued Tuesday said “the matter remains under investigation.”
