WACO (October 30, 2009)—Waco FBI agent Lovett Leslie Ledger, Jr., who was sentenced to two years deferred adjudication probation and 300 hours of community service in July after pleading no contest to animal cruelty charges is no longer with the agency, the FBI confirmed Friday.

FBI spokesman Eric Vasys said agency policy and federal law preclude further comment.

Ledger was charged in the shooting death of a 3- to-4 pound Chihuahua in February 2008.

The offense is a state jail felony, which carries up to a two-year sentence, but prosecutors recommended probation.

Ledger had sought deferred adjudication probation, which means if he successfully completes the term of probation, the conviction will be expunged from his record.

Ledger was indicted in July 2008 in the death of the dog.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Ledger told a witness that he shot the animal with a pump BB-pellet gun and said he, "must have pumped the gun up too much."

The dog was walking on Estes Road in front of its home when it was shot once.

It ran into the yard of one of Ledger's neighbors, where it died.

About a year ago, my 5 year old son was attacked by a dog that I had to shoot in our front yard. I would have loved to have shot the owner instead! Zero sympathy for "dog lovers" who are unable to control their animals. I think agent Ledger should have been kept on as an FBI sniper (for one thing, he is obviously a good shot). Who's going to save my family if there's a hostage crisis at Walmart? Maybe sent in a chiuaua with a rhinestone collar.

Give me a break!! A guy who is trained and qualified as an FBI agent has a higher responsibility when using a gun!! Anyone who is qualified to shoot a gun (as a cop, FBI agent, concealed handgun licensee, etc) knows that the only time you point a gun at ANYTHING is if you intend to defend yourself against it at whatever cost.... what did that little-bitty dog do to him?? What would he do to you??

So what most of you are saying is that if there is something that is annoying someone, they have the right to take things into their own hands! hmm interesting! i'll have to remember that the next time the kids throw their bikes down in my yard tearing it up, the punks next door play their thug music at 100,000 decibels 24/7 or the jesus freaks that ignore the sign on my door stating "no soliciting and that includes religion sellers"! i'm glad to know that its okay to take things into my own hands if i have a problem! You are correct concerned citizen. You dont have to be mentally unstable to want to get rid of a problem but i also agree that you ARE mentally unstable if you kill a dog walking down the street when there are other alternatives! Its going to be funny if his kid ever gets mad at a playmate and decides to shoot them with a pellet gun! I can hear him now: "that's how my daddy does things"! lol
