MCLENNAN COUNTY -An autopsy says a McLennan County Jail inmate had toxic levels of an illegal drug in his system when he died while in custody.

The autopsy, obtained by News 10, reveals 23-year-old Robert Gray had high levels of methamphetamine in his blood.

Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas conducted the autopsy after Gray died as he was preparing to bond out of jail.

Gray, of Axtell, Gray was arrested after a Texas State Technical College police officer pulled him over at around in September for running a stop sign on the TSTC campus. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to the autopsy, "Robert Gray, a 23-year-old white male, died as the result of toxic effects of methamphetamine."

"I don't think they did anything to hurt him, maybe thought he was faking it, then when they realized he wasn't, it was too late." said Sandra Gray, Robert's mother.

Attempts to reach jail officials by phone and email on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

I don't care how "good" of a person you are. If you do drugs, you're an idiot. He proved that as a fact. I'm not saying idiots deserve to die. It is what it is. Rest in Peace and may your clouds be filled with the best meth you can find!

Robert was an amazing person. He was respectful and so caring. He would be there no matter what you needed or asked. He made a mistake and it cost him his life. Instead of bad mouthing this amazing young man maybe we should try to learn from his mistake... and have a little respect for someone that's no longer here.

I'm sorry that this young person died, but it sounds like (from what I've read that the Autopsy is the 'final' report/results). The rest of the questions will never be answered.
