Another Area Hospital Joins Scott & White Health Plan Save Email Print

(April 14, 2008)—King’s Daughters Clinic Monday became the latest area provider to join the Scott & White Health Plan, which means heath plan members may now use King’s Daughters clinic and King’s Daughter Hospital.

“Our commitment is to give patients personalized healthcare where they want it and when they want it. We are changing health care in Central Texas,” said Kristi Glover, CEO of King’s Daughters Clinic.

King’s Daughters Clinic has facilities in Killeen, Belton and Temple.

Late last summer, Waco’s Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and 45 Hillcrest physicians joined the Scott & White Health Plan’s provider network and Scott & White confirmed it was in talks it hoped would lead to the acquisition of a third-interest in Killeen’s Metroplex Hospital.

Metroplex is operated by the Adventist Health System and includes both the 213-bed hospital in Killen as well as the 25-bed Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas.

Earlier this month, Scott & White took over responsibility this month for managing the Llano Memorial Healthcare System, including the 30-bed Llano Memorial Hospital.

The Llano County Hospital Authority Board will continue to govern the hospital.

Scott & White and Lake of the Hills Regional Medical Center reached an understanding in April 2007 and were ironing out details of a jointly owned and operated 120-bed acute care hospital.

Lake of the Hills Regional Medical Center is the non-profit entity the Llano County Hospital Authority created to build and operate the hospital.

It discussed the project with more than 20 potential partners before deciding on Scott & White.

The Lake of the Hills Regional Medical Center will be the centerpiece of the Crossroads Regional Medical Campus at the intersection of Highways 281 and 71 just south of Marble Falls, Scott & White said.

My father developed a cancerous growth on his ear. S&W made him wait 3 months to have it removed. When the time came to have it removed, the growth had spread and my father nearly lost his hearing. If you read the comments closely, you would remember the original comment was about specialists, not general practitioners. You can get those a dime a dozen, each with a different diagnosis. The expansion of access to clinic doctors has nothing to do with better quality, it has to do with more money. 15 minutes per client is hardly quality. Thanks.

I was on Cigna with my last job and it covered nothing! S&W has been good to my family since getting a job in Temple but my premiums just went up $100 per month for the family plan and the co pay went up to $40. I hope this is not a trend.

Central Texas government workers want to have S&W health insurance again, but can't! I know people complain about Scott & White, but it is the only game in town.

My family has S&W insurance, and has for several years, and I think they are fantastic. It all depends on what plan you are on, particularly what plan your employer has chosen. Ours, for my husband and me, and our two children, is only $30 per month, our copays are $10 per dr. visit, and $100 for the ER. This is negotiated by the employer. So if you have an issue with paying too much, maybe you should confront your employer instead of harping on S&W. Furthermore, I see many complaints on here about waiting to get appointments. That is WHY S&W is trying to expand its services into different hospitals so you have MORE doctors to choose from...common sense here!

I have S&W coverage and pay way to much. I recently lost my Pedi Doctor to KD and am happy that now I can go to her for my children. But someone has to stop S&W from all their bad ways before the wolf tells us when where and how. The sheep are getting eatten alive by S&W. We paid 7500 last year for S&W horrible coverage. They have to come down to help us keep our insurance. Someone needs to start a investagation on this price health plan.

HMO'S (SW & SWHP) are an amazing delivery system of Health Care. I would just like to praise SW, SWHP & all staff for providing an amazing system of care to Central Texas, and to all that travel thousands of miles for the care SW delivers. I celebrate life everyday with my mother, and alot of what I celebrate has everything to do with God & SW doctors, and the awesome benefits offered by the SWHP. And for those who do not agree (you have your opinion)- I would encourage you to educate yourself a bit before posting that type of immature comment. Wow SW is attempting to grow, so that access is not an issue (Susie)... and then we have (Rachel) others that make unnecassry growth comments. Come on people make up your mind & get a clue!! People of Central Texas do you want an amazing delivery system or not???

I am grateful to S&W and its staff! Thanks to their care my father survived a heart attack. Monopoly?? Don't think so...S&W did not purchase KD they added the KD physicians to the network of providers. Yes, there are access issues at S&W but with the addition of more physicians this can only be an advantage to the people of Central Texas. Unable to see a specialist at S&W, you can now use a specialist at KD. Don't recall anyone getting this upset when the SWHP added Hillcrest Baptist to the provider network.

I totally agree with "Susie". I think it was about 3 1/2 months before my son was able to get an appt with a specialist and then it was in Austin. By the time his appt. rolled around he was already hospitalized twice. S&W sucks, but it is what my job offers. I even tried Klara's House and they turned me down cause I had S&W, talk about a slap in the face. Now if I didn't work and try to take care of my children by providing for them, I would get all type of assistence! Now that sucks!!

We love King's Daughters. I hope this doesn't mean KD is going to drop to the level of S&W.

Posted by: Lauren Location: Coolidge on Apr 15, 2008 at 09:16 AM
a bigger place but will you get in any quicker doubt it.

Posted by: Susie Location: Central Texas on Apr 15, 2008 at 08:52 AM
HMO's STINK!.....you can DIE in the time it takes you to get an appointment.....I mean.....3 months wait to see a specailist with S&W! That's crazy!

Posted by: Rachel Location: Temple on Apr 14, 2008 at 11:50 PM
Do we see a monopoly growing here where soon everyone will have to bow at the feet of almighty Scott and White?

Posted by: John E. Location: Salado, TX on Apr 14, 2008 at 09:18 PM
Temple VA Hospital and Fort Hood employees used to get Scott and White health insurance through the VA. VA and Fort Hood employees haven't been able to get S&W health insurance for many years now. Why??? Maybe KWTX could look into this and find out why the federal government will not provide S&W insurance, but will provide Blue Cross, Mail Handlers, etc. Something is fishy about this.
