(August 6, 2008)— A federal task force is now recommending men over 75 NOT be screened for prostate cancer.

According to the US Preventive Service Task Force, many prostate cancers grow so slowly that men who have them are more likely to die from some other cause and may suffer more from the treatment than from the cancer itself.

Other experts say not all 75-year-old men are the same and worry the new guidelines will discourage many who might benefit from getting tested.
