(October 1, 2008)—Sunny Maid Corp. of Monterey Park, Calif. is voluntarily recalling powdered coffee mixes because of concerns that some lots may be contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday.
The Mr. Brown 3-in-1 and 2-in-1 powdered packets in bag coffee mixes are sold in plastic bags, each of which contains 30 individual packets.
The three flavors included in the recall are 3-1 Mandheling, 3-1 Arabica mix and 2-in-1 Mandheling mix.
The company’s canned Mr. Brown coffee products are not included in the recall, the FDA said.
Sunny Maid initiated the recall after the manufacturer notified the company that the products may contain melamine.
Although only certain lots may be contaminated, the company decided to recall all of the products, the FDA said.
No Illnesses have been reported to date.
The products were distributed to wholesalers and retail stores in more than 20 states including Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
Consumers who bought the recalled products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for full refunds.
Consumers with questions may email the company at smc88@att.net.
