(November 10, 2008)—Ground was broken Monday in Fort Worth for a new facility that will be the largest leased Veterans Affairs clinic in the country.

The 240,000-square-foot clinic is scheduled for completion by 2010.

The new clinic will be four times larger than the existing Fort Worth facility now serving 16 counties.

Congress approved a $16.3 billion increase in veterans’ health care and benefits in the last two years in an effort led by the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Committee, which Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, chairs.

Edwards was on hand Monday for the groundbreaking.

The current Fort Worth clinic opened in 1992.

The new clinic will add specialty services, including cardiology, endoscopy, dermatology and prosthetics.
