(November 17, 2008)--A burial site in central Germany, from 4,600 years ago, contained the remains of a man, a woman and two youngsters, and DNA analysis shows that they were a mother, father and their children.

Writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers say, "Their unity in death suggests unity in life."

In addition to the nuclear family found in one grave, there was also a second grave holding three children two of whom were siblings.

They were buried with a woman who wasn't their mother.

Researchers think she may have been a paternal aunt or stepmother.
