(January 11, 2009)—An Ohio peanut butter distributor is recalling one of its brands after finding salmonella contamination, but tests have not linked the bacteria to a salmonella outbreak in Texas and 41 other states.

King Nut Companies says the bacteria were found in an open five-pound container of King Nut brand creamy peanut butter.

The Minnesota Department of Health said Friday that preliminary laboratory tests had not linked the bacteria in that peanut butter container to the type of salmonella in a national outbreak.

It said additional results are expected this week.

The national salmonella outbreak has sickened almost 400 people in 42 states including Texas.

King Nut Companies asked customers to stop distributing all peanut butter with a lot code that begins with the numeral "8."

It said it has canceled orders with the manufacturer.
