Central Texans have lined up at blood centers throughout the region in the wake of the deadly shooting at Fort Hood, while churches have opened their doors and counseling centers have opened to help those trying to make sense of the deadly shooting Thursday at Fort Hood.

President Barack Obama will attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Hood. Other details are pending.

Fort Hood: Fort Hood has set up a hotline for relatives of Fort Hood personnel, who may call (254) 288-7570 or (866) 836-2751 for information about loved ones.
Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center has established a Behavioral Health Hotline at 254-553-3480 for Soldiers and Army Families affected by the recent shootings at Fort Hood. The hotline is available 24 hours around the clock from now until Monday morning, Nov. 9.
The Red Cross is encouraging people to register themselves or loved ones with whom they’ve been in contact at Fort Hood on the Red Cross’ Safe & Well Web site:
Department of Veterans Affairs Readjustment Counseling Service Mobile Vet Centers will be staged at the Killeen Convention Center (2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd., at the corner of WS Young & Veterans Memorial Blvd.) and the Super WalMart (1400 Lowes Blvd) in Killeen and on Fort Hood at the Clearcreek PX/Commissary complex and at the Warrior Way PX/Commissary complex. The Killeen Heights Vet Center is located at 302 Millers Crossing in Harker Heights. The Killeen Heights Vet Center will also be open from 8:00 – 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Those wishing to schedule an appointment at the Vet Center may call (254) 953-7100. All Mobile Vet Centers will be open Saturday, Sunday, and Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and later as necessary.
Blood Drives
Donations for blood are being accepted again at Scott & White Memorial Hospital.
The Carter Blood Care Center at New Road and West Waco Drive, which supplies blood to 16 hospitals in the region including Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, is appealing specifically for donors with O-negative blood, because the type can be used universally.

Counseling
A counseling center has been established at the Killeen Community Center at 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Boulevard for those affected by the tragedy at Fort Hood. Volunteer mental health professionals and representatives from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Salvation Army, Red Cross, Victim Relief Ministries, and others are on hand to assist families, employees, and community members.
Salvation Army Officer from Waco, Texas, Captain Russell Czajkowski, a former United States Marine, will be overseeing The Salvation Army’s pastoral response efforts on site with direction from Major James Taylor, The Salvation Army’s Divisional Secretary for Texas. The Salvation Army is answering the call immediately and will report to the base to provide spiritual care today and through the weekend from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. “We are honored to answer this call and to provide what comfort and counseling we can to our brothers and sisters during the aftermath of this horrific day,” said Major James Taylor.
Heritage Care Hospice's chaplain and bereavement counselors in Harker Heights, are available for free assistance to community members affected by the shooting. A toll-free 24-hour grief compassion helpline was set up, staffed by counselors with advanced degrees. The toll free number is 1-800-854-8080 Crawford-Bowers Funeral Homes in Killeen, Copperas Cove and Temple sponsored the helpline.

The Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of Association of the United States Army has set up a Community Response to 11/5 Fund for anyone wishing to make monetary donations to help support the families of the victims involved in Thursday's shooting Fort Hood." Supporting these brave soldiers and their families in the wake of this terrible tragedy is very important," said Ron Taylor, the chapter president. "This community has always rallied steadfastly around our troops. We will not let them down during this critical time of need," Taylor said. "Our hearts and prayers are with the victims, the families of the fallen and the wounded during their recovery process."

H-E-B, which has donated $50,000 to the AUSA Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter fund, has started an in-store tear pad that offers H-E-B customers an opportunity to donate to the fund in increments of $1, $3, or $5 to their total grocery bill. All proceeds will go to AUSA’s efforts on behalf of the Fort Hood shooting victims and their families.
Fort Hood has announced opportunities for the public to donate to various agencies on the installation honoring the Soldiers and family members affected by the mass shooting on post.
