Financial Concerns Lead To Drop On Wall Street Save Email Print

(August 18, 2008)—Renewed concerns about the financial sector took a toll on stocks Monday.

The Dow fell 180 points to 11,479.

The S&P 500 index dropped 19 points to 1,278.

The Nasdaq composite lost 35 points to 2,416.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by an 11 to 4 margin.

Volume on the NYSE came to 3.7 billion shares.

Nasdaq stock market volume was 1.6 billion shares.

Light, sweet crude for September delivery fell 90 cents to settle at $112.87 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac both recorded declines of more than 20 percent Monday.
