Stocks Settle Lower Tuesday Save Email Print

(August 19, 2008)--Weakness among financial stocks continued to weigh on the broader market, Tuesday and a rebound in oil prices also gave investors pause.

The Dow staged its second straight triple-digit decline, closing down 130 points to 11,348.

The S&P fell 11 points to 1,266.

The Nasdaq composite shed 32 points to 2,384.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 3 to 1 margin.

NYSE volume came to nearly 4 billion shares.

Nasdaq stock market volume was 1.7 billion shares.

Light, sweet crude for September delivery rose $1.66 to settle at $114.53 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
