Stocks Finish Higher Friday Save Email Print

(August 22, 2008)--Stocks posted a strong advance Friday with the help of falling oil prices and a rebound in some battered financial stocks.

The Dow rose nearly 197 points to 11,627.

It was down 0.3 percent for the week.

The S&P gained 14 points Friday to 1,292.

It was off slightly for the week.

The Nasdaq composite surged 34 points to 2,414.

It was down 1.5 percent this week.

Advancing issues topped decliners by a better than 2 to 1 margin.

NYSE volume was 3.6 billion shares.

Nasdaq trading came to 1.3 billion shares.

Crude fell $6.59 to settle at $114.59 a barrel.
