(August 29, 2008)—CertainTeed plans to close its PVC pipe extrusion and fabrication plant in Waco and consolidate some of its operations with a facility in McPherson, Kan., the company announced Friday.

Workers at the Waco plant, which produces a variety of PVC pipe products, learned of the plans Friday morning.

The company attributes the decision to a drop in demand for PVC pipe products.

The closing will affect about 105 employees in Waco, the company said.

“It is always a very difficult decision to close a facility,” said Peter Dachowski, president and CEO of CertainFeed.

“We are committed to providing those who will be leaving the Waco plant with the resources they need to identify new opportunities in the local area and within CertainTeed,” he said.

The plant will be closed down in two phases so equipment can be moved to the facility in Kansas.

The company plans to close the plant’s fabrication operation by the end of February 2009, which will affect about 30 workers.

The rest of the operation will be closed later in 2009.

CertainTeed also operates a pipe extrusion and fabrication facility in Lodi, Calif.
