(November 25, 2008)--The Conference Board said Tuesday consumer confidence has risen this month, but remains quite low.

The business research group's closely watched index is at 44.9, up from a revised 38.8 in October.

The reading for last month was the lowest since the Conference Board began tracking it in
1967.

The Director of the Conference Board Consumer Research Center, Lynn Franco, said consumers remain extremely pessimistic.

She said it is highly unlikely that economic growth will improve in the first half of 2009.
