Waco Foreclosure Rates Rise
Foreclosure rates were up in March in Waco compared to last year, according to First American CoreLogic.

WACO (May 14, 2009)—Foreclosure rates were up in March in Waco compared to last year, according to a report released Thursday by First American CoreLogic, which collects national, state and local data on home prices, foreclosures and delinquencies, real estate volume an mortgage loan activity.

The report says the rate of home foreclosures was 1 percent in March compared to 0.70 percent in March 2008.

The statewide foreclosure rate in March was 0.80 percent and the national rate was 2.10 percent, the report says.

Over the past 12 months, 1,137 foreclosures have been posted in Waco, compared to 1,093 during the 12-month period ending in March 2008, the report says.

The mortgage delinquency rate has also increased in Waco, the report says, from 2.9 percent in March of 2008 to 3.6 percent in March of this year.

Makes you wonder how the appraiser feel justified in continuing to increase appraisals. Maybe it's time for residents to band together and say something.

Drivng through Woodway and Hewitt, I see a lot of empty houses. Times like these people have to do what they have to do. The economy in Waco has never been all that great to begin with. Low pay for many degreed professionals, low pay for hourly workers. That's a recipe for failed growth.
