Central Texas Firm Lands $22 Million Army Contract
A local firm has won a $22 million construction subcontract for barracks that will house more than 1,200 soldiers.

KILLEEN (May 28, 2009)—Zubi Modular Concepts of Killeen has won a $22 million construction subcontract for housing units for two Advanced Initiative Training Barracks and Company Operations facilities at Fort Lee, Va.

The firm is a permanent modular construction company.

It will oversee all aspects of the project, which will house 1,200 soldiers.

According to a press release issued Thursday evening, company officers Michael and Priscilla Linnemann and Danny and Lisa Pearrow expect work to start this fall and to be completed in December 2010.

Zubi is a minority- and woman-owned business that started operations in September 2008.

The obvious question is did they actually have anything to do with executing the work described in the contract? Or are they just another of the many minority firms being used by big businesses to get around the “set aside” requirements? I've been in the modular building industry for over 20 years and have never heard of this company.
