NEW YORK (August 24, 2009)--Investors slowed their hectic stock buying Monday, leaving the major indexes little changed after a four-day advance.

Stocks pulled back from their early highs Monday as financial stocks, which had been surging, retreated.

Meanwhile, Treasury prices have rallied ahead of the latest round of debt auctions.

Analysts expected a pause after stocks soared last week, lifting the Dow Jones industrials 370 points.

The advance picked up momentum on Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke declared that the economy is on the verge of recovery.

The Dow was up 3 at 9,509, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index was up about half a point at 1,025.

The Nasdaq composite index rose almost 3 to 2,017.

Rising issues are slightly ahead of falling stocks, while volume came to 1.23 billion shares.
